First impressions: It’s hard not to be wowed by a product which looks this good and has an array of adjustability.
It’s quite easy to be confused by the number of drivers Callaway are currently offering. But make no mistake about it – this is Callaway’s flagship driver really is a box of tricks while absolutely looking the part.
After being dazzled by the fantastic design and adjustability, the look at address is what really set it apart for me. Perfectly square, compact and with a subtle alignment aid. The looks and head shape are pure.
What they say: Callaway insist the Big Bertha Alpha 815 is the longest and lowest spinning to date. But the company say there is now added forgiveness.
The gravity core promotes lower CG and low spin is achieved with Rmoto Technology for a lighter, thinner face that creates more efficient energy transfer and high ball speed.
An adjustable hosel lets golfers choose from a combination of 8 different loft (-1, S, +1, +2) and lie angle (draw or neutral) configurations. There’s also adjustable heel and toe weights of 1g and 7g.
Consider this if you want arguably the most advanced driver in our test this year – and the looks are stunning" NCG verdict: There’s a touch of the legendary FT-5 to me about the sound and flight.
Even though I found the Alpha 815 much more playable than last year’s Alpha, I’d still say it will appeal most to the better player.
The looks are simply stunning and this is arguably the most advanced driver in our test this year. Some might prefer a louder sound but you can’t please everyone.
