It’s Isle of Man TeeTee as major event unveiled

Castletown Links Trophy to be held from July 4-6.

Top amateur golfers will gather on the Isle of Man in July to compete in a new tournament on the Castletown links course, which has previously hosted some of the world’s top professionals.

The inaugural Castletown Links Trophy is to be played over 72 holes stroke play from July 4-6 and will be a counting event for the World Amateur Golf Rankings, supported by the R&A.

England A squad and Castletown member Tom Gandy is relishing the opportunity to take on some of the UK & Ireland’s leading golfers on home soil. He said: “I can’t wait to welcome the guys to Castletown and show people the high quality of golf we have on the Isle of Man. The event will give our great local players a chance to gain world ranking points at home, as well as inspire the next generation of talented players on the island.”

The Old Tom Morris designed links course has hosted some of the world’s top golfing names, including Greg Norman, Tony Jacklin, Justin Rose and Sandy Lyle.
‘I can’t wait to show people the quality of golf we have on the Isle of Man’ Philip Vermeulen, owner of the course since 2011, has invested heavily in the club, which came 75th in National Club Golfer’s Top 100 Links.

The maximum field side will be limited to 90 players, with an exact handicap of 2.4 or better.

Through partnerships with Isle of Man businesses and the Isle of Man government’s tourism division, players will be able to benefit from return ferry travel along with three nights bed and breakfast accommodation in a three-star hotel from £170-£22- per person based on two people sharing a room.”

Castletown’s Johnny Evans said:”We believe this represents good value and will create a total event cost at a comparable level to other leading amateur golf championships, of which competitors are required to stay away from home. In this way the championship schedule has been prepared to keep cost to a minimum while allowing for an exciting championship for all.”
