What’s in Branden Grace’s Doha-winning bag?
The South African lit up the desert in Doha, and the Callaway staff player added to his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship win with victory in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Grace had to rely heavily on his wedge play during the tournament, and even managed a spectacular snap-hook shot from the trees in his third round to birdie and steady the ship after a shaky start to the round.
But that shot paled in comparison to his drive to within 4 feet on the par 4 16th, smashing it and holing for what would be a decisive eagle in his final round.
“I’m going to thank Callaway again – that driver again on 16 to four feet; without that it wouldn’t be possible,” Grace said.
“That wedge on the fifth hole, that was a shot that you want to hit but you don’t always manage it.
“The form has been there, I played great and I managed to get in on top.”
“These are big now, so this is one of the wins that’s really putting me back on the map now. I think I’ll be in the top 50 or just outside.”
