North West: Hospice charity day raises £12,800
The fairways were alive with the sound of music at a charity day held at Windermere GC in aid of a Lancashire hospice recently.
The event raised £12,800 for St John’s Hospice, with 124 players taking to the course in support of the charity.
Golfers were treated to ice cream, massages, afternoon tea, fairway renditions from Maria Von Trapp and family, and the chance to beat the lady pro, with Hally Calvert from Lancashire taking part.
“We aim to create some unique golfing memories and this event has surpassed all my expectations,” said the hospice’s community fund-raiser, Jill Santamera.
‘Maria from the Sound of Music bursting out of the trees to serenade the golfers was great fun’ The event was hosted by volunteers and supported by sponsors such as Function 18; The Macdonald Old England Hotel and Spa, and Barclays, who match funded the event.
Cliff Heath is chairman at Windermere GC and said: “We are delighted to have hosted such a unique event and for a very worthwhile local organisation.
“I believe participants for next year’s event on Friday September 4 are already signing up and we hope this will be even more successful.”
