Share your Ryder Cup memories and win prizes
With this year’s highly anticipated Ryder Cup matches almost upon us, The Belfry, as the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup, is running a #OnThisDay social media campaign looking to rekindle memories of the iconic matches to have taken place at the legendary Midlands resort.
As the world’s only four-time host venue, The Belfry is looking to engage and encourage golfers to share their memories from specific dates when the Ryder Cup was held at the resort across Twitter.
The campaign will run from Saturday 20th through to Monday 29th September, to align with the dates for three of these matches – 1989, 1993, and 2002.
Some of the memorable moments to be shared throughout the digital campaign include:
- 20th September: #OnThisDay 1989 US Captain Raymond Floyd announced his team as the “12 greatest players in the world” at the Gala Ball….Europe won
- 26th September: #OnThisDay 1993 The First Swedish player to compete in the Ryder Cup, Joakim Haeggman claimed a memorable point against John Cook
- 29th September: #OnThisDay 2002 Phillip Price holed a 25ft putt on the 16th to seal a sensational victory against world #2 at the time, Phil Mickelson
By posting memories using #OnThisDay, golfers will be able to win a host of daily and overall prizes.
The Ryder Cup is a special event, unlike any other golf tournament, and creates long-lasting memories for any golf fan Daily prizes of Belfry merchandise from the fully stocked Golf Shop will be awarded to the best response for each date. All entries will also be entered into a prize draw to win tee times across two of The Belfry’s globally recognised golf courses; The Brabazon and PGA National.

The Ryder Cup is a special event, unlike any other golf tournament, and creates long-lasting memories for any golf fan.
“With this likely to be the most interactive Ryder Cup of all time, we wanted to capitalise upon the scheduling of this year’s matches, and run a social media campaign encouraging people to share their memories from three of the four matches that we have hosted.”
