World No 1 Tiger Woods showed just how determined he is to win a 15th Major title earlier this week when he visited and played Merion – site of this year’s US Open – in driving rain.
The American was escorted around the course for the very first time by Buddy Marucci – a member at the club and the man Tiger Woods defeated in the 1995 US Amateur – and spent three hours there getting to know the par-70 layout, which is known for its small greens and thick, dense rough.
Rumour has it that very few of the world’s elite have played Merion recently, which shows just how dedicated and determined Woods is to win his first Major title in five years.
My advice? Back him now while he’s still better than odds-on.
