Tiger Woods remains on course to win the 2012 Masters according to the bookmakers ahead of the third day’s play at Augusta National. Priced at around 4/1 ahead of Day 2, a one-under-par round of 71 has seen odds on a Woods victory shorten to around 3/1.
Following a surge up the leader board on the second day, Australian Jason Day now leads the tournament heading into the weekend. His four-under-par round of 68 has seen his odds cut from around 33/1 to just 6/1.
The bookmakers clearly believe that Day could pull on the Green Jacket come Sunday evening, but anyone thinking of backing the Aussie now should perhaps take note of what happened to Dustin Johnson yesterday. The American found himself in a similar position after Day 1, and the markets reacted – dropping odds on a Johnson victory from around 30/1 to 8/1. However, after shooting a four-over-par 76 yesterday, his odds have lengthened back out to 40/1.
The Europeans’ odds have seen little movement heading into the weekend. Rory McIlroy still remains priced at 12/1, with Lee Westwood and Justin Rose available at 16/1 and 12/1 respectively.
Of the current leaders, Fred Couples, Angel Cabrera and Mark Leishman still remain outside bets to carry their form into the weekend. Of the current leaders, Fred Couples, Angel Cabrera and Mark Leishman still remain outside bets to carry their form into the weekend. Couples is priced at 25/1, Cabrera at 28/1 and Leishman at 33/1. Perhaps these men are ones to back on an each way bet before the start of play today, along with Jim Furyk and Charl Schwartzel, who are priced at 20/1 and 25/1 respectively.
