Cleveland launch new app as part of wedge trade-in

Cleveland bring back the 588 wedge

Remember Cleveland's famous 588 wedges? Well, they're back and, according to Graeme McDowell, better than ever...

Cleveland have relaunched one of the most successful wedges in history.

The 588 was a massive hit with both amateurs and pros when it launched in 1988, and many tour stars still use it because of its classy, versatile shape. Indeed, Graeme McDowell – a Srixon/Cleveland staffer – has been using the same 588 wedges from his college days since he signed with Srixon last year.

All in all, the club has an impressive 26 major titles and 335 PGA Tour wins.

Aesthetically, there is little difference between the original 588 and the latest version.

However, there are many technological advances designed to improve performance. The headline has to be the new construction. The new 588 is forged from carbon steel and is intended to offer soft yet solid feel and reduce vibrations. The unique process Cleveland use is designed to offer unrivalled consistency.

The new 588 is also home to the brand’s famous Tour Zip Grooves, which are laser-milled to the limit of the new rules for maximum spin within the current regulations.

Couple all this with an exclusive proprietary shaft from True Temper, which promotes a penetrating flight and increased spin and distance control, and you have the perfect all-rounder.

McDowell on the 588s

“The Cleveland 588s have always been the best wedges ever made, and they continue to improve. The new 588 are precision wedges with great aesthetics and the classic Cleveland lines.
“They have an improved feel and spin control than their quality predecessors.
“I use the 48, 52 and 58, and I first had these in my bag at the Dunhill Links where I finished 3rd.  They have been in my bag ever since. The best wedges just got better.”
