Introduction
This programme was the first Golf degree programme in Europe and aims to provide students with opportunities to develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices underlying generic sports areas.
The programme also enables students to focus on the management of golf by providing specific golf modules throughout the three years of the programme. All students taking this exciting course participate in a common first year with other sports students but will also secure a Greenkeeping NVQ.
Students are also given full 7-day membership of the Hazlemere Golf Club. The partnership with the Golf Club and other golf organisations enables students to gain first hand experience of working with coaches.
Students are eligible for two BCUC Golf Teas, one of which finished second in the UAU Premiership last year.
Course Content
The first year of study is generic in nature, giving students the opportunity to participate in management, coaching and sports performance modules.
At the end of Level One students can then make an informed choice about which degree route to take. These routes comprise Sport & Leisure Management, Sports Coaching Management and Sports Performance with Applications to Management.
Whichever route students choose, they will still take the eight golf specific modules open to them. Two of these are in the first year and comprise a year-long Greenkeeping module. Other golf specific modules comprise Golf Management and Golf Club Management & Operations.
At Level Three students study a two-semester project module where a piece of research is constructed as a major project with emphasis on golf management.
