Francesco's punch shot

How to keep it down in the wind

By European Tour pro Francesco Molinari
on 22 December 2011

Stay square

Position the ball back in your stance which will de-loft the club and move your hands forward but make sure that the clubface, which will want to open slightly, remains square to the target.

Stay over it

As long as the hands return ahead of the ball at impact you will produce a punched flight as required. The two key things to remember are to turn your shoulders in the backswing and keep your torso over the ball at impact.

Low and hold

Keep the club low to the ground – this is the finishing position you should be looking to replicate.
