Why a £5 note will help your striking
Crisp contact
Good, consistent striking with your irons is the key to finding more greens. The problem for most amateurs is a poor strike caused by leaning back and trying to lift the ball in the air. To achieve crisp contact, you need to hit the ball on the way down and take a divot after contact. This simple drill will help you get the most out of your irons and lower your scores.
Remember the note
Take the club away normally but concentrate on the space in front of the ball that the note occupied.
Attack the turf
Hit the ball first but make sure you make contact with the turf - aim to take out the equivalent of a £5 note.
Check your divot
Once you’ve hit the shot, check your divot. It should be the same shape as a £5 note. Take note of where the ball was sat and make sure it starts after that point, ensuring you’ve hit the ball first.
