Gary Alliss breaks down Padraig's moves

Nice and athletic
Very good, athletic set-up – quite orthodox. Just note the grip is favouring the stronger side of the accepted parameters. His right side looks a bit high but this is just due to him looking left.
Arc de triomphe
Halfway back it appears the clubface is closed but, again, this is just a trick of the camera angle. The main thing to note is his left heel is leaving the turf to promote a wide arc and big turn.
Free shoulder turn
With the club on plane, the good set-up posture allows Padraig to freely turn his shoulders and his left heel continues to lift. He doesn’t resist with the lower body.
Ready to deliver
Just at the moment of transition from back to down he is beautifully poised to deliver a free-wheeling attack. The face is square and the leading edge of the club is lying parallel to the plane angle.
Hip now clearing
Approaching impact, his feet are firmly planted with the weight still quite evenly distributed between the inside of the right foot and outside of the left. The left hip is clearing, the right elbow tucked in, the spine angle held and shaft parallel to the target line.
Too hard?
Everything looks OK through impact – but has his left leg straightened a tad too much or too early? There is a lot of pressure on the left leg and the left foot is being dragged up, is it the result of trying to hit the ball just too hard?
Power but little poise
There is a huge amount of power here. Tour stars have to hit the ball so far these days but there is a hint here that Padraig is fighting to maintain balance and poise.
Super balance
This is an interesting finish with the left foot, right shoulder and shaft all pointing at the target showing great flexibility and remarkable balance.
