THE BASICS: Perfect your set-up

How to improve your roll

Four check points

* Eyes are positioned directly over the ball encouraging a better aim
* Hands are positioned on the grip opposing each other to create a smooth takeaway. Grip pressure is also important – a light pressure is required
* The shaft points directly at the belly button and this position is maintained throughout the stroke
* The stance is shoulder width apart, encouraging a strong base and better balance. The feet line should also be parallel to the intended target

Upwardly mobile

This explains the importance of the putter head and the ball position. The leading edge of the putter is situated directly underneath the chin which is central to the feet. The ball position should be approximately a finger width away from the putter face to create an upward motion into impact and producing a pure roll.
