Overcoming thick rough

Ball sitting down? No problem

The trouble shooter

When the ball is sitting down use your most lofted club, which will be your shortest, to encourage a steeper swing to minimise the amount of grass between the clubface and ball.

Don't quit on it

This is all about getting the right impact. Play the ball towards the back of your stance to help with a steeper path into the ball and don’t be afraid to play the shot with a fullish swing. The easiest mistake to make is to quit on the shot.

Legs quiet

There is no need to force this shot, let the club do the work. Take a couple of one-handed practice swings and feel the club hinge while keeping your legs quiet. Don’t feel like you have to grip the club hard – with the right impact the ball will come out easily.
