Tackling a greenside slope

Turn three into two around the green

All straightforward

When faced with this type of shot you might think that you need to make a number of alterations to your set-up and swing to produce a sound result. The good news is very little needs to be changed.

Eyes right

With the ball above your feet stand a bit further away – there is no need to choke down on the grip too much. And for this type of slope, aim well right of the target despite it being just a 20-yard shot.

Take plenty of loft

I like to play this type of shot with my 60˚ wedge as I am looking to land it about 10 feet short of the pin. Then swing normally, maintaining your height, and trust that the clubface is going to follow the slope. You can see here that it is still possible to get plenty of height, even from such an awkward lie.
