Perfect your approach angle

Why the spine angle is crucial

Angle of approach

The spine angle is very important in the swing. It should remain at the same angle at address, at the top of the backswing, when you start the downswing and through the ball. The key through the impact position is to ensure the clubhead stays low through the ball and is a mirror image of the backswing.

Watch and turn

You want to feel that the club is travelling close to the ground, both arms are extended and I want you to keep your head behind the ball at impact. Watch the ball being hit – there should be a slight delay to look for the ball and you should focus your eyes on to a position where the ball used to be. Then, and only then, you can start to straighten your spine.
