Titleist: no benefit to 'lady' balls
Attention all female golfers: using lady-specific balls might be hampering your performance...
At a recent press launch for Titleist's new ball range*, one of the company's most influential employees - Mary Lou Bohn - spoke about balls designed for ladies.
"I am often asked if Titleist make a golf ball for women," she said.
"I say yes - every Titleist ball is designed for women.
"The golf ball doesn't know who is hitting it; how old, how skilled or what the golfer's gender is."
Mary Lou went on to explain how the majority of 'lady' balls are two-piece, distance-orientated balls. They are good for maximising carry off the tee but not for hitting controlled shots around the greens.
"Low-spin distance balls tend to land, release and run through the green so are not ideal for hitting it close to the pin.
"Balls like the Titleist Pro V1 and NXT Tour S offer much more control on shots around the green, which will help the majority of ladies score better."
The moral of the story? Don't be put off by balls you think are designed for men - they could improve your scores no end.
