A YEAR ago we pondered which Englishman would end the 15-year Major drought and here we are again.
Then, our likely contenders were Westwood, Donald, Casey, Poulter, Rose and Fisher. Now, Westwood and Donald, the top two in the world, are the frontrunners for the unwanted ‘Best Player Never To Have Won A Major’ tag.
Westwood, five top 3s in the last nine, appears to be getting ever closer while the World No 1 enjoyed his best Major year in 2011 with two top 10s.
As for the others, it was a fairly dismal effort.
