9 Will an Australian step up at Augusta?
IT remains baffling that an Australian has never won at Augusta yet the country’s recent run in the Majors has been equally as poor.
Only Geoff Ogilvy, at the 2006 US Open, has won since Steve Elkington did so at the 1995 PGA.
That equates to 64 starts and the same success rate as England, Scotland, Spain, Canada, South Korea, worse than Argentina and Fiji and two adrift of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
You couldn’t fault Scott and Day’s efforts at Augusta and, with five players inside the world’s top 50, their chances look rosier than for a while. Day already has three top 10s in just six starts.
