Project X PXi shaft
Dan Murphy gets to grips with what is set to be the hit shaft of 2012...
The Project X shaft has been a revelation in recent years – the nearest we have seen to a genuine long-term rival to Dynamic Gold for better players.
Now a new version is being introduced that is causing quite a stir on tour. Apart from the visual impact of the PXi – at first glance you would presume it to be a graphite shaft – with graphics on – the first thing to say is that it’s a little bit lighter than Project X: 112g in the 6.0 flex compared to 120g.
It also feels smoother, and less harsh, yet retains the Project X’s essential property of helping iron shots launch higher but spin less than Dynamic Gold. The makers say that, as a guide, the 5.5 can be considered as a stiff flex, with the 6.0 a stiff-plus, the 6.5 an X-flex and the 7.0 an XX.
