A superb Herbert Fowler design in Beauchief Estate near Sheffield
Founded in the mid-1890s, the club commissioned the well-known and highly-respected architect Herbert Fowler to create the golf course.
Fowler’s portfolio includes prestigious names such as Walton Heath and The Berkshire, which gives a good insight into the quality on offer at Abbeydale.
Set in the mature woodlands of the beautiful Beauchief Estate near Sheffield, Fowler has carved a layout that flows beautifully.
The challenge builds with a number of varied holes that demand complete control of every facet of the game.
It provides a memorable golfing experience for players of all handicaps and retains some of the best views of the Derbyshire countryside to be seen anywhere from Sheffield.
Fowler’s design ethos of strategy and reward are apparent, with a great blend of long and short holes making up the par-71 layout.

In recent years the course has benefitted from the installation of a new fairway drainage system, allowing play when other courses have been closed in adverse weather conditions.
This progression, alongside its manicured appearance, undulating greens and beautiful views, have allowed it to gain a reputation as the best course in Sheffield.
