NEWS: Amateur ace at 'Sawgrass'

In 25 years of existence, only six players have aced the 17th at Sawgrass - and they've all been pro - but 17 handicapper and businessman Stuart Carr defied odds of 45000/1 when he emulated that feat last month.

On the 29th June 2008, Carr was enjoying a round at Rudding Park, Yorkshire and stood over the 137-yard par-three taking aim. After a spectacular shot right out of the screws, he saw the ball soar over the pin and trickle into the hole.

The par-three is Yorkshire's only replica of the notorious Sawgrass 17th and includes an island green in the middle of the lake with a identical prevailing wind.

A longstanding member of Rudding Park, Carr chose to make a charitable donation in celebration of his feat.

“I am amazed and delighted" he said. "It’s a challenge landing the ball on the island let alone getting a hole-in-one! I have made a donation to the Captain’s Charity by way of celebration.”
