NEWS: Double ace for club golfer

How many of us long for a hole in one - just one ace to call our own?

I think everyone with a big enough wallet to quench the thirsts of the whole bar would answer this with a yes, but what about getting two of these remarkable shots in one round... sounds impossible right?

But member of Belmont Golf and Lodge Brian White (pictured), defied heavy odds of 67,000,000/1 when he completed this feat on June 10th.

Whilst away at Woodlake Park representing his Hereford-based club, the 11-handicapper grabbed two, yes two aces within an hour of one another.

The first came at the 130-yard 10th when Brian hit a full eight-iron from the yellow tees. "The impact felt perfect' he said, 'But from where I was stood, I was the only one who could see it drop in the cup, and no-one believed me when I said it had gone in."

His remarkable second of the day came only four holes later at the short 106-yard hole when he choked down on a nine-iron and punched the ball up on to the elevated green, "On our way to the blind 14th", he said, "the opposing captains stood on a vantage point to see if I could get another. When they shouted that it too had dropped in the cup, I didn't believe them!"

Partnered with Belmont seniors Captain, John Driscoll, and facing both past and present Woodlake Captains, Bob Paske and Peter Badham, White expressed it 'took a while to sink in', but with a bar bill of £55, we think he got off lightly.

In the end, White's two aces proved vital in his fourball as he and Driscoll ran out 2up winners, but unfortunately for his club, they ended up losing the meeting 4 1/2 points to 3 1/2.
