Woods in total control
IF you were smart enough to draft Tiger Woods into your Winter Fantasy Golf team then congratulations, you've just cashed in on 100 points.
In all seriousness it was a bit of a no-brainer that Tiger would be up in the points, but what came as a surprise was the manor in which he clamed his sixth Buick Invitational victory.
The world No 1 finished on 19-under, with a gap of eight shots separating him from Japan's Ryuki Imada to make it four on the bounce at Torrey Pines.
"Ever since junior golf, I really seemed to have played well here. It fits my eye, I feel very comfortable,” said Tiger.
"It's just one of those things where some people just have an affinity for certain golf courses.
"My buddy Mark O'Meara won five times up at Pebble Beach, I guess Sam Snead at Greensboro and Jack Nicklaus at Augusta.
"Guys that have won a number of times at certain venues and somehow this golf course seems to have been pretty good for me."
This result is ominous for the rest of the world's top players when the US Open comes to Torrey Pines.
The South course was playing a similar distance to when it will return in June, however, the slicker, quicker and much firmer greens that will be in evidence will no doubt play right into the hands of Woods.
The victory also drew Tiger level with Arnold Palmer in fourth place on the all-time PGA Tour list with 62 career victories. Ahead of him now stands only Sam Snead (82), Jack Nicklaus (73) and Ben Hogan (64).
Palmer said: "I'm sure that there are many, many more wins coming in the future, and I wish him all the luck in the world."
Other Winter Fantasy Golf players in the points were Stewart Cink and Rory Sabbatini who shared third place, Justin Leonard (5th), Joe Durant, Phil Mickelson (T6) and a host of others.
However, Kenneth Ferrie made a fantastic start to his PGA Tour career after first pulling out of the Sony Open two weeks ago.
The Englishman ended the week on 3 under par in a six-way tie for 13th.
On the European Tour Adam Scott stormed to a 20-under par victory in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters thanks to a final round of 61 that included 11 birdies, no bogeys and set a new course record.
The victory comes six years after the Australian last visited Doha, having previously won on that occasion also.
