WITB: Marc Leishman – Arnold Palmer InvitationalMarch 20, 2017 Golf Equipment
We take a look at the clubs which helped the Australian to his second PGA Tour win at Bay Hill…
It was Leishman’s first PGA win since switching from Titleist to Callaway clubs at the start of the 2016 season.
With three top-five finishes at major championships it’s surprising we haven’t seen the Aussie in the winner’s circle more often.
Many people will remember Leishman reaching the play-off at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews – losing out to Zach Johnson.
Before today, not many knew that his wife Audrey nearly died from toxic shock syndrome, a rare life-threatening complication of bacterial infections. Doctors gave her a five percent chance to live.
So it was an emotional time for the Leishman family – including five-year-old Harvey and three-year-old Ollie – as they celebrated on the 18th green.
A key ingredient to this victory was a 50-foot eagle putt on 16 which he rolled in with his Odyssey Versa #1 Wide putter.
There was also a crucial up and down on 18 where he wedged it close from 45 yards and made par to close out victory.
He averaged 300.2 yards (T31) off the tee with his GBB Epic with the weight moved to the heel to help promote a draw.
Interestingly, Leishman carries a 21-degree GBB Epic fairway wood and a 21-degree Apex utility iron.
There are no real stand out statistics from Leishman’s game tee-to-green but he was second in strokes gained for putting.
It just goes to show that if you can hang in there and hole some crucial putts when it matters, you always have a chance.
