PGA Tour rookie Poston mistaken for a parking valet and Stefani strips off

1. Poston, the car park champion

You probably won’t be familiar with the name JT Poston. Neither was a man in the car park at PGA National who threw him his car keys thinking he was there to park cars.

In fact he was at the Honda Classic to play – Poston went on to finish at two under after blowing three shots at the 17^th.

Only the previous week the 23-year-old from North Carolina, who came through the Web.com Tour in 2016, had finished T17 at Riviera.

2. Poulter’s wife spends keepsake

With Bay Hill coming up in a couple of weeks there, hopefully, will be no shortage of good Arnold Palmer stories.

Here’s a good one to get the ball rolling. Out in the ether is a $100 bill (that’s note to you and me) signed by The King as Mrs Poulter accidentally spent it.

“He signed a $100 bill which my wife actually spent one time,” Poulter said. “It was in the safe. She didn’t realise it was actually signed by Arnie, so it’s out there somewhere. It was probably in Publix, to be honest.” (Don’t worry, it’s just a supermarket in the US.)

Thankfully good old Arnie signed a replacement for the one-time assistant pro.

On the course Poulter is playing on a medical exemption – he needs to earn $220,301 or accumulate 155 FedEx Cup points in his next six starts to keep full status.

He has played the last 10 Masters but is now down to 206 in the world, he’ll need to get inside the top 50 or win to keep that run going.

3. Rory books in for extra start

It’s not a well-known fact but on the PGA Tour a player who didn’t play in 25 events must add at least one tournament that he hasn’t played in over the previous four seasons.

It’s a relatively new initiative as the Tour wants to make sure that the same tournaments don’t get all the big names.

So we will now see the President’s new fourball partner Rory McIlroy tee it up the week after the US Open at the Travelers Championship, a tournament that he has never played in. Russell Knox defends.

And while everyone moans and bleats about players missing tournaments, McIlroy will now play five times in a six-week stretch.

There was a press release but, to paraphrase, he’s looking forward to playing and hopes to do well.

4. Pieters nails colours to the mast

Some early good news for Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn, Belgium’s Thomas Pieters won’t be switching to the PGA Tour any time soon.

Even with four picks next year you would imagine there will be some sort of mess with some US-based star missing out on a technicality but it won’t be the Belgian, the European star of Hazeltine.

The World No 33, second at Riviera recently, will be staying loyal to Europe and he has already been in touch with Bjorn to relay the good news. And Europe might have his sister to thank.

“I’m really close to my family, I love living at home and I’m a new uncle now (his sister had a son three months ago), which is really exciting,” Pieters said.

“Even when I go away for three weeks, I do miss my family. That’s why I’m going to keep playing in Europe and for the Ryder Cup, as well. I told Thomas Bjorn that I’m not going to leave his tour and I’m dedicated to playing in Europe and being in that Ryder Cup team. I just love playing in Europe. Even going to the Swedish Open or KLM Open, I love the atmosphere and seeing different cultures and cities.”

5. Stenson: Take 2

Shawn Stefani was the latest player to strip down to his undercrackers and didn’t the commentators enjoy the show.

For the record he dropped a shot. And missed the cut.
