TaylorMade launch new M1 metalwoods: What’s new?

In September 2015, TaylorMade introduced the game changing M1 driver which has been responsible for great success on the PGA and European Tour ever since.

Fast forward 15 months and they have pushed the boundaries even more with the next generation of M1 metalwoods promising personalisation, improved launch conditions and even more forgiveness.

So what’s new in the M1 and what makes the next generation even better?

Well what we will see in the new M1 driver is a new lower density Titanium alloy called 9-1-1 and an added carbon toe panel, accounting for a total of 43% more carbon composite than its predecessor.

The new and improved carbon crown saves more weight due to the composite being a full 10% thinner.

The new M1 driver now has a six-layer Carbon composite crown instead of seven that is lighter. It also has a bonding ledge that is 18% shorter and the adhesive used is half the thickness of the original M1 driver.

With the improved weight savings on the crown, TaylorMade were able to design and produce a more aerodynamic T-Track system with 27g of moveable weight and 2g more than the original M1.

A re-designed back track accounts for 12g of the weight which is 19% longer than its predecessor. This gives the golfer more high-to-low adjustability.

The 15g of weight located in the front track allows for the weight distribution from heel to toe (7% more than the previous) and a massive increase of up to 25 yards in their adjustments to the draw or fade bias.

The extra weight has been used to allow the footprint of the clubhead to be 4% larger, leading to a higher MOI and more importantly. increased forgiveness.

The new M1’s centre of gravity (CG) is lower than its predecessor, resulting in a CG projection that is even closer to the centre of the face. So what does this all mean?

Well with the CG being closer to the face this will mean a hotter trajectory and an increase in ball speed at impact in all locations of the club face.

What else is new to the next generation?

TaylorMade have welcomed a new 440cc model, featuring a slightly smaller head, deeper face and 30g of moveable weight, all working in unison with all of the same technologies as its 460cc counterpart.

Both clubs feature a new 4-degree lightweight aluminum loft sleeve and three new stock premium shafts: Fujikura XLR8 Pro 56 (high-launch), MRC Kuro Kage Silver Dual Core TiNi 60 (mid) and Project X HZRDUS Yellow 65 (low) as well as 30 additional premium custom shaft options at no upcharge.

The new M1 driver will be available on 27th January and will cost you £479.

Available in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 12 degree loft options.

The new M1 Fairway

The new M1 fairway wood from TaylorMade is their longest and most adjustable to date. It uses the same six-layer carbon composite crown as the new M1 driver.

What’s new?

It has been redesigned with a T-system with a shift towards the back to make room for a revolutionary new open channel Speed Pocket.

This helps deliver more distance due to its increased speed and lower spin, not forgetting the improved forgiveness aspect of the new fairway woods.

The rear sole, divided by the sliding weight track, delivers improved turf interaction for shots that are hit off the deck.

There is more adjustability options for golfers than ever before with a lighter aluminium 4 degree loft sleeve and a 25g draw to fade sliding weight system.

A carbon fibre crown is bonded onto the head of the new M1 fairway through a special FF2FF manufacturing process that replaces the majority of the steel that was formerly on the crown and also lowers the centre of gravity for reduced spin.

With the length of the track being maximised by engineers, this permits the CG to remain as low as the original M1 while maintaining the same heel-to-toe range of movement.

Like the M1 driver, the M1 fairway will be available on 27th January priced at £279 offered in 15, 17 and 19 degree loft options with an MRC Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 70g fairway shaft.

The new M1 Rescue

What the new M1 rescue features is a moderated size, Tour-proven shape and a newly designed sole. This will help its appeal to a wider variety of golfer as it offers more playability from an increased variety of lies.

There is a new 27g sliding weight track and the head comes with a new, 3 degree lightweight aluminium loft sleeve, similar to that of the new M1 fairway.

The newly designed sole offers ultimate shot shape adjustability and personalisation and is the first time TaylorMade have featured a sliding weight in one of their hybrid models.

The M1 Rescue will be offered in 17, 19, 21 and 24 degree loft options,  priced at £239 with a MRC Kuro Kage Silver hybrid 80g shaft.
