Top 5: Game improvement shoes
Tiger Woods returned to action this week at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and he was sporting Nike’s latest game improvement shoes.
He was wearing a prototype of his latest signature golf shoe, the Nike TW ’17, with Woods feeling “supreme support from this shoe which leads to the utmost confidence when I step onto the course”.
They feature a new strapping system concept designed to help keep Woods secure through his swing and a full day of golf.
However, Nike, with their new Tiger Woods shoes (available in spring 2017), aren’t the first manufacturers to offer game improvement shoes.
Let’s take a look at some of the best products which claim they can make a difference on the course.
5. FootJoy XPS-1
Endorsed by Padraig Harrington, the FootJoy XPS-1 shoes were designed to provide a greater amount of stability and balance when in action on the course.
The wide base of the sole extends beyond the normal edge of the shoe and the outriggers (the protruding bits on the sole) certainly take some getting used to.
However, these bad boys work. As you move through the swing, the wider base increases the amount of surface area in contact with the ground.
Bravo, FootJoy.
4. Ecco BIOM Golf
The Ecco BIOM Golf range is described as “convention-breaking” on its website, with its golf shoes and socks “taking advantage of the foot’s natural system for absorbing impact while bringing players closer to the ground than ever before”.
I’m not sure if any of that is good for my golf game but it sounds scientific and I will therefore take 10 pairs of socks please.
3. Adidas Adizero One Shoes
Looking like something Lionel Messi would wear on the hallowed turf of the Camp Nou, the Adidas Adizero One shoes are extremely lightweight.
They even weigh 10 per cent lighter than their predecessor and help reduce fatigue at the end of the round.
Everyone could do with a pair of these for those long days at the office.
2. Hi-Tec CDT Power shoes
Who wouldn’t want to wear a pair of shoes that are said to give you those extra yards you have been looking for on the course?
That man again, Padraig Harrington, endorsed these puppies with its power lying in shoes the sole design and soft spike configuration.
As I regularly top the ball of the tee, a pair of these Hi-Tecs might help me reach the fairway eventually.
1. Adidas Adipower Boost
Boasting a breakthrough in Boost technology, the Adidas Adipower Boost shoes are designed to deliver maximum energy return, responsiveness and comfort.
The Boost is made up of thousands of capsules that are bound together using a high pressure steam moulding process. They then expand and contract as you move to store and release energy during the swing and as you walk.
Anything that gives me more energy on the course without me having to guzzle down energy drinks or chocolate bars is a winner in my eyes.
