Equipment: Is Lydia Ko set for PXG switch? Here’s 5 who have

Well-placed sources say Lydia Ko will move from Callaway to PXG in 2017

It emerged from ‘well-placed sources’ that Lydia Ko is set to change equipment from Callaway to PXG in 2017.

The 19-year-old had a disappointing end to 2016 and is now set for a month off where she won’t even pick up a set of golf clubs.

“They are probably sick of the sight of me too,” the teenager said following the end of the LPGA season.

But will her current clubs see tournament action again? It has been reported that she has been offered a very enticing financial package to leave Callaway.

Parsons Xtreme Golf (PXG) was founded by well-known businessman, philanthropist and golf nut Bob Parsons.

They sent real shockwaves through the golf industry at the end of 2015 by prizing away a number of top tour professionals – now known at the PXG Troops.

Here are our top five who switched to PXG:

1. Zach Johnson

PXG - Zach Johnson

A long-term Titleist player who made the switch just months after winning The 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews.

Johnson never transitioned out of the Titleist 913 driver and was even seen using a blacked-out version of it at the Ryder Cup.

2. Charl Schwartzel

PXG - Charl Schwarzel

This was a very sudden move but an indicator of what was going on behind the scenes at Nike.

The 2011 Masters Champion announced he was switching from Nike on the eve of the 2016 Open at Royal Troon. He literally got fitted on the range on the Monday.

About a week later the announcement dropped that Nike were leaving the golf hardware business.

3. Billy Horschel

PXG - Billy Horschel

A former Ping staff player who has been making more headlines for his trousers than his golf since winning the 2014 Tour Championship and FedEx Cup.

His run of form at the end of the 2014 season prompted Team USA to change the timings of their Ryder Cup wildcards picks, saving one until after the FedEx.

4. Chris Kirk

PXG - Chris Kirk

Another player who was knocking on the door of the 2014 Ryder Cup team and hasn’t really hit the heights expected.

Kirk made the switch to PXG from Callaway ahead of the 2016 season.

5. Alison Lee

PXG - Alison Lee

Infamously picked up her ball at the 2015 Solheim Cup thinking it had been conceded after Charley Hull walked away. Suzann Pettersen insisted the putt had not been given and Europe were awarded the hole.

Lee, 21, was one of the hottest prospects at amateur level but has failed to make her mark among the world’s elite.

A 6th place at the 2015 Evian Championship remains her best finish to date as she waits for her maiden LPGA Tour win.
