Bubba Watson named as 5th American vice captain
We can’t explain why but Bubba Watson has been selected as the 5th American vice captain.
“The Texan turned out to be good-natured, generous and likable. In three days no one could stand him.” Joseph Heller, Catch 22.
Bubba Watson the 7th best golfer is the world had been overlooked as a player for the Ryder Cup but has been selected as the 5th non playing vice captain
Watson is the world No.7, the third highest ranked American. At East Lake, the supposed form guide for the final playing spot, he finished in a tie for 10th by closing with rounds of 66 and 67.
It was his fourth top ten of a season in which he has only missed 1 cut and won the Northern Trust Open and Hero World Challenge.
He is a multiple major winner and has played in 3 previous Ryder Cups.
It was widely understood that he was not among the wild card picks due to his ‘unique’ personality. Not popular enough to be picked was the general assumption. Not without substance either, in this secret poll of tour players 22% said they would not help Bubba in a fight.
So this is a man who had made himself an almost ‘must pick’ for a playing role and un-pickable for a non playing role and now finds himself on the team not playing. Confused? We are.
