About Liz Young

Liz Young

Ladies European Tour player Liz Young made the headlines in national newspapers last month for her appearance in the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

The 33-year-old was playing the event at Woburn in Milton Keynes seven months pregnant.

Young, with her husband Jonathan as her caddie, shot two rounds of 73 but didn’t make the weekend’s action after missing the cut.

She took up golf at the age of 12 and turned professional eight years ago.

Young was on a golf scholarship in the United States at the University of Iowa from 2001 to 2005, earning a BA in Economics

She had an outstanding amateur career, which included representing England from 2006 to 2008.

In 2006, she was crowned the English Stroke Play champion, while in 2007 she was a gold medalist in the Spirit International Amateur Championship and represented Great Britain & Ireland In the Vagliano Trophy.

The next year she became the South Atlantic Women’s Amateur champion, won the English Order of Merit and represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Curtis Cup.

In her first season on the LET in 2009, Young posted two top-10 finishes: 6th at the Open de Espana Femenino and a tie for 9th at the Finnair Masters in Finland.

In 2011, Young played in 19 tournaments with a career-best finish of 4th at the Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open, played at Archerfield Links in East Lothian.

She fired a career-low 65 in the third and final round of the 2013 ISPS HANDA New Zealand Women’s Open at Clearwater Golf Club, where she ended T5th and matched that score with another 65 in the third round of the Allianz Ladies Open. She recorded five additional top 20s and finished 23rd on the Order of Merit, her most successful season in five years on Tour.

But she would go on to surpass that achievement in 2014. Highlights included top-five finishes in the Allianz Slovak Open, Xiamen International Ladies Open and Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. She finished the season in 20th place on the Order of Merit.

Last year, Young finished 25th on the Order of Merit as the 8th ranked British player.

She is currently 28th in the 2016 Order of Merit and 274th in the world rankings.
