Played by NCG: Archerfield (Fidra)
Where is Archerfield (Fidra)?
An hour’s drive from Edinburgh, based around the country retreat of Archerfield House in Dirleton, East Lothian.
Reasons for Going?
Part of a long overdue golfing trip with the commercial team and was the first Scottish course I had ever played.
What to expect?
A course that is very easy on the eye but will test how many shots you have in your locker. The Fidra course is a mixture of both inland and links type holes and requires you to think about every shot.
The inland part of the course is far more forgiving off the tee which can catch you out when you reach the links style holes if you get too complacent. The facilities aren’t bad either with the Nike Performance centre based there.
My best bit?
Definitely the variety of holes the course offers. I have yet to play another course that has as much character as Fidra.
When I go back…
Think about my club selection a lot more. There isn’t a weak hole on the course which means no respite if you want to shoot a low score.
