Tour Notebook: Toilet trouble for Vijay and Day a dad again

How Jason Dufner sparked the deer antler debate

Dufner’s toilet visit bad news for Vijay

Vijay Singh’s deer antler spray legal battle took another strange twist when it was revealed that he only discovered that IGF-1 was on the PGA Tour’s banned substance list thanks to Jason Dufner having a sit down on the toilet.

We’ll let Vijay explain….“[Dufner] said it was accidental how he read it. He was sitting in a can (American for toilet) having a you-know-what and it (the banned substance list) was laying on the floor so he picked it up, and he was surprised that it was on it. He said if he hadn’t been in the can at that moment in time, he’d have never known that it was [on the banned list].”

Block hinders GMac progress

Graeme McDowell hasn’t won since the French Open last year and one hole, the 1st at El Camaleon in Mexico, looks like it will play a big part in that run continuing.

McDowell hit his tee shot out of bounds at the par 4 in practice on Tuesday and he repeated that in the first and third rounds to run up double-bogeys. On the second day he just made a bogey. On Sunday he made his first par.
“I’ve played that first hole like a complete idiot this week,” McDowell said. “That driver swing that’s going to the right, that’s been killing me the last few weeks. It really stopped me from competing in Turkey a couple weeks back. It’s just something I’m working on, something I need to eliminate from my game.”

Ochoa hints at Major (but not Tour) return

Former World No 1 Lorena Ochoa won’t be returning to golf though she is still keen to maybe play in more ANA Inspiration (was the Kraft Nabisco) or Women’s British Opens in the future.

The Mexican, who turned 34 on Sunday, retired over five years ago and is seven months pregnant with her third child, a boy that she plans to name Diego. Last week she hosted her Invitational in her home country.

She said: “Maybe I’ll go back to play a Nabisco or a British Open, or a tournament that I enjoy, go there with my family just to have a good time, but I will never play a full season. Every other year the players come here, I have a big belly.”

Day becomes a dad again

Jason Day has become a dad for the second time with the arrival of Lucy on Wednesday.

His son, Dash, was one of the most prominent faces on the PGA Tour in the second half of the season as his dad won again and again and again and he now has a little sister. The PGA champion, who turned 28 the day after his daughter’s birth, will be back in action at the Hero World Challenge on December 3

78 holes later, Dunne off to Catalunya

Paul Dunne, who shared the lead at this year’s Open with just one round to play, made it through to the final stage of this week’s European Tour Q School after coming through six extra holes at Lumine.

The 22-year-old, who turned pro after the Walker Cup, birdied his 72nd hole for a 67 before edging out Jaco Ahlers at the third extra visit to the 18th.

His Lytham team-mate Jimmy Mullen had a less anxious time of it, topping the qualifying at El Saler by four shots. The Royal North Devon youngster finished 16 under to continue his brilliant form of the past few months.

Davies compiles strong team

Four members of the Solheim Cup team will represent the Ladies European Tour in the first playing of The Queens matchplay tournament in Japan on December 4.

Dame Laura Davies is the playing captain of a side that contains Karine Icher, Catriona Matthew, Gwladys Nocera and Melissa Reid. It is made up by winners this season Hannah Burke, Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Emily Kristine Pedersen and completed by Marianne Skarpnord.

Europe will take on the LPGA of Japan, the Korean LPGA Tour and the Australian Ladies Professional Golf.

Mark Townsend

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
