Who won what and where: Love conquers all at the Wyndham

PGA Tour – Wyndham Championship: Davis Love III
An 80th PGA Tour win for Tiger Woods never materialised but there was still a miraculous story as America’s Ryder Cup captain came through the field with a last-round 64.
Love was 186th in the FedEx standings and had missed the cut in eight of his last 12 starts but became the third oldest winner ever on Tour after a stellar front nine. It was his third success at this tournament.
The 51-year-old bogeyed the 1st and 7th but in between had four birdies and an eagle. He added another eagle at the 15th and parred in.
Jason Gore needed a birdie at the last to tie Love but narrowly failed though he does keep his card. Paul Casey and Charl Schwartzel were part of a three-way tie for third along with Scott Brown, playing with Tiger, who had a hole-in-one at the 3rd. 
Woods tied for 10th, his first top 10 of the year, fell apart at the 11th where he had a shank from just off the green but then regathered himself with four birdies in the last six holes.

What he said: “It kills me the last couple of years not to play in The Players. My friends at home assume I’m in  because I won it twice. That one and the Masters are kind of crushing that you don’t get in there.

“When I walked off 18th green I didn’t know what was going on. I knew I needed to make birdies coming in. I knew that I had to make that par putt at 16 because you’re just playing the game and you can smell the blood in the water. You know what’s going on. But I didn’t know the scores. I think that really helped me.”

European Tour – Made In Denmark: David Horsey

Horsey led from day one and his opening 63 and he finished it off with a two-shot win over Kristoffer Broberg, Soren Kjeldsen, Daniel Gaunt and Terry Pilkadaris.
Horsey only had one birdie and was caught by Pilkadaris, the first time in 41 holes, but the Australian doubled the 15th to give the Stockport player a two-shot advantage. He then three-putted from eight feet at 16 but parred in.
Kristoffer Broberg broke the course record with a brilliant 62.

What he said: “I’ve been playing well for quite a few months now and not really been getting any results and not scoring particularly well so to come out with a bit more strategy and a bit more focus this week has paid off. I’ve been focusing on myself and not trying to get caught up in the tournament and I managed to do that so well it’s nearly a bit of surprise.”

LPGA Tour – Canadian Pacific Women’s Open: Lydia Ko

The New Zealander won this title for the third time, the first time as a pro, after beating Stacy Lewis in a play-off.

A par was enough at the first extra hole after the American (67) had made up five shots on the last day. Ko holed from short range while Lewis missed from nine feet.

Rookie Alison Lee was fifth to tie up her place in the Solheim Cup team, Lizette Salas and Gerina Piller also guaranteed their slots.

Ko, still only 18, now has an incredible eight victories to her name.

What she said: “Unfortunately Stacy missed the fairway. I said, hey, you’ve just got to concentrate on your game, just one shot a time, and that’s what I tried to do. I said, I don’t want to get too aggressive to that pin but maybe it was a little bit too safe and maybe wasn’t the best shot going in. I made a really good first putt on my normal 72nd hole, and made a good putt on the first playoff hole. If the put was any longer for my second one, I would have been really nervous.”

Challenge Tour – Rolex Trophy: Nacho Elvira

The Spaniard catapulted himself onto the European Tour after claiming his third win of 2015.
France’s Benjamin Hebert and Swede Kristoffer Broberg had previously achieved the hat-trick of victories and Elvira did it by two shots from the money list No 1 Ricardo Gouveia.
But Elvira eagled 13 and then added three straight birdies for an inward nine of just 32.

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, son of rugby legend Grant, was third, his fifth top-10 finish in six Challenge Tour events, including one victory. England’s Gary Boyd shared fourth after a closing 64.

What he said: “It is unbelievable, it’s hard to describe. I have been working for this very hard this year and it finally paid off. It is a dream to be back on The European Tour so soon. After I got my second win I got a bit too worked up trying to get the third win but I then started to relax and it went better.”
