Club golfer stereotypes – No 4: Mr TiddlywinksAugust 21, 2015 The Scoop
Meet the people who (might) make up the membership of your club
Supposedly there is a player on one of the main Tours who has this nickname, given because of his penchant to ever so slightly edge his way closer to the hole when marking his ball on the green.
Growing up I played with someone who would, in the blink of an eye and some sleight of hand, without hitting a shot, flick his way into gimme range.
He would also have an aberration with his mathematics after making a mess of a hole. The very odd eight would be totted up as a seven, occasionally a six, Which was very rare that he was off 1 at the age of 15 and pretty much the best player in the club.
So, while there was much chat about his skills and quite ridiculous putting – I’ve yet to see anyone better – there was an equal amount of hushed conversations and scepticism as to how he would put these brilliant scores together. Given this was best put down to teenage naivety, and something he probably grew out of, he would always be tarred by his own brush.
Most likely also the case with our Tour friend.
