After the thrills and spills of the US PGA Championship it’s back to the bread and butter of the European and PGA Tours this week.
It’s always interesting to see who has performed well in the events immediately after a Major to see if the exertions of the previous week have taken their toll.
After the Masters Kiradech Aphibarnrat was a European Tour winner in China – he did not play in the Masters.
Jim Furyk won on the PGA Tour immediately after missing the cut at the Masters.
Pablo Larrazabal won the first European Tour event after the US Open having not teed it up at Chambers Bay while Bubba Watson won on the PGA Tour after missing the cut in the US Open.
Danny Willett and Jason Day break the mould as the pair won on the respective tours after both finishing in the top 10 at The Open.
You often get weakened fields in events immediately after Majors and I think the same can be said for the Made in Denmark on the European Tour and the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour sees a relatively low-key field teeing it up at the Wyndham where Brooks Koepka is the surprise favourite.
I’d have a think about Brandt Snedeker, Hideki Matsuyama and Branden Grace who all performed well at the US PGA but they don’t offer any real value.
My pick is young American Justin Thomas who has been threatening to do something special for a while.
Odds of 28/1 are by no means generous but that highlights what a prodigious talent he is.
I’ll just throw in Nick Watney for a bit of value who finished tied fifth last year and can be backed at 66/1.
