Social Spotlight: The golfing week on social mediaJuly 10, 2015 News & Tour
Featuring Jiménez's Wimbledon nap, Spieth's epic shark tale and McIlroy's continued bad fortunes
Following Rory rather casually announcing his withdrawal from The Open on Instagram, we’re looking at the best golfers to follow on social media.
What follows are the most interesting, insightful or just plain hilarious golfers to keep up with online.
Golf Debate: Will Rory’s absence ruin The Open at St Andrews?
Insta of the Week
A few of the pros have been spotted down at Wimbledon this week. Justin Rose snapped a photo alongside his mate Luke Donald on Instagram, sharing a Pimm’s at SW19.
Miguel Angel Jiménez, on the other hand, let the world know exactly what he thinks about tennis this week. He was spotted (by none other than Ian Poulter) taking a timely nap during a match.
LET star Charley Hull has also been keeping a keen eye on Wimbledon. Aside from letting the world know she is partying in Ibiza this summer, Charley announced her desire to pick up a racket:
Here’s what Jiménez thinks about that:
Tweet of the Week:
Bubba Watson announced on Twitter this week that he would be painting over the Confederate flag on his car ’General Lee’ – the same car made famous in ’The Dukes of Hazzard’.
Recognising the flag emblazoned on his car as a sore reminder of the US’s slave-owning past, Bubba has done the decent thing and will be covering the confederate flag with a shiny, slightly-more-PC American flag. Although not everyone is happy about it.
Viral Video of the Week:
McIlroy’s unfortunate week continued as Fox News presenter Lisa Montgomery confusingly called him “a leprechaun” live on TV, stating that she “can’t stand him” because of the way he broke off his engagement with Caroline Wozniacki. That clip can be watched here.
Jordan Spieth, on the other hand, told an epic fishing tale prior to the John Deere Classic featuring a 12-foot shark in the Bahamas, a two-and-a-half hour standoff, and almost being thrown overboard. You can watch that video here.
So Rory pulls out of The Open with an ankle injury and gets called a leprechaun, and in the same week, Spieth catches a 12-foot shark?
I know who is the greatest in my eyes…
