Jamie Donaldson recreates Ryder Cup winning shot

Welshman’s wedge approach on 15th hole at Gleneagles clinched victory for Europe

Jamie Donaldson returned to Gleneagles to unveil a commemorative plaque marking his winning Ryder Cup shot – and attempt to recreate it in the process.

The 146 yard wedge landed 18 inches from the pin, with the resulting birdie putt seeing Europe over the winning line on their way to an eventual 16 ½ – 11 ½ triumph.

Donaldson was awarded the 2014 European Shot of the Year for the wedge approach.

5 reasons why Darren Clarke is the 2016 Ryder Cup captain

Gleaneagles’ managing director, Bernard Murphy, said: “It’s hard to believe that seven months have passed since Jamie hit that shot and secured a European victory.
I’ll definitely never get tired of talking about that shot “Being part of such a memorable and exciting Ryder Cup is something which everyone at Gleneagles will treasure, and we’re grateful to Jamie for coming back to help us create a lasting reminder of a momentous week.”

Golf Debate: Who’ll make the best captain? Clarke or Love?

Ryder Cup director at The European Tour, Richard Hills, said: “There are many special memories for everyone connected with Ryder Cup Europe during the week on the PGA Centenary Course, but Jamie’s shot into the 15th hole which ultimately sealed the victory clearly stood out for us all.”

Donaldson said of his winning shot: “I’ll definitely never get tired of talking about that shot.

“It was such an amazing moment for me, but more importantly for the team. Everyone had put so much effort into that week, so it was nice to get our just rewards at the end of it.

“I couldn’t have dreamed of a better finale.”
