5 tips for finding the perfect grip

There’s no doubt that new grips are good for your game.

A secure connection to the club that helps you swing confidently with a light pressure grip can add yards to your drives and take doubts from your mind.

But with so many options out there, how do you find the right grip for your game?

With the help of Lamkin we look into the 5 key factors affecting your game grip.
Size is the single most important factor when selecting a grip.

There are four basic grip sizes, undersize, standard, midsize and oversize, with further customisation available using grip tape.

There are ways to point you towards the ideal grip based on your hand and finger size (like the Lamkin Grip Selector), but the best size is based on both hand measurements and grip feel.

Shafted grip samples are available in many stores. Hold a variety of grip sizes and see what sits most comfortably.
Materials significantly influence the feel of a grip.

Most grips are made of rubber or synthetic materials. Some new synthetic materials, like Lamkin’s patented ACE 3GEN, offer superior vibration dampening and long-lasting tackiness.

Grip tackiness is often cited as the most desirable trait in a grip but again, hold a few shafted samples and see what feels best in your hand.

Surface Texture dictates the traction a grip can give in wet conditions and how soft it can feel in general play.

When selecting a grip, golfers should choose a texture that feels comfortable and secure.

If a player doesn’t wear a glove, they may prefer a grip with less pattern and a smoother surface.

Some players prefer a rougher, more aggressive pattern that provides more hand traction and gripping confidence.

It’s often a balance between comfort and confidence in the connection so finding a grip that provides both is ideal.

Firmness is an important factor relative to a golfer’s swing speed.

Lamkin’s maximum performance grips such as UTx or Crossline ACE 3GEN have a firmer feel for superior torsion control, meaning they twist less under the greater pressures of a quicker swing.

Comfort grips  from Lamkin, such as R.E.L ACE 3GEN or Wrap-Tech are softer feeling and ideal for players with lower swing speeds or those who prefer a tackier connection.

Weather conditions are the final factor to consider.

For golfers playing in climates prone to rain or humidity special care should be taken to select a grip that will deliver confidence whatever the weather.

Grips that include cord fabric are especially helpful in creating extra traction in wet conditions, however, for many players, cord grips are too aggressive for their hands.

Lamkin’s UTx grip a great solution to this problem, offering superb wet weather performance with all-weather comfort.
