European Tour golf on the cards for Doncaster

European Tour gives backing to plans for a world class golf complex at Rossington Hall.

The world’s best golfers could be teeing it up in Doncaster after the European Tour backed plans for a course at Rossington Hall.

The scheme will see a tournament quality course built on the 500 acre site under the European Tour Destination banner.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “This is tremendous news for Doncaster. Last year, Yorkshire welcomed the Tour de France and it would be another boost for the region to welcome top golfing stars in the future. It’s a real feather in our cap that Doncaster has been chosen as part of the expansion of the European Tour Properties exclusive network of world class golf destinations.”

In addition to the tournament course, there will be a second 9-hole course, a clubhouse, leisure facilities and 500 homes built.
‘We hope to bring top flight professional tournament golf to the venue’ With the oldest classic horse race in the world, the St Leger, taking place in Doncaster, Cllr Jones said Doncaster is establishing itself as one of the country’s most rapidly-improving areas.

David MacLaren, director of property and venue development at the European Tour, said: “We are delighted to offer our support to the Rossington Hall golf project and hope to bring both a long-term relationship and top flight professional tournament golf to the venue once it is developed. We see huge potential with both this development and the region and look forward to a prosperous partnership.”

An outline planning application for the project, which has been supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, will be submitted later this year. Subject to approvals and construction, the developers believe golf could be played at Rossington Hall within just a few years.
