Performance can't be faulted - superb shaft options

First impressions: The combination of the neon-orange and pink BiMatrix shafts we were fitted into and the ‘stealth’ black heads certainly help this driver stand out.

I have to admit being slightly intimidated by the fairly compact, all black head with no alignment aid. The fact the face is also black means it feels like you don’t have a huge amount of loft.

It’s a look and feel that may suit the better player but still looks pretty cool even if the design on the sole is not as exciting as some other drivers in Lynx’s range.

What they say: Lynx have increased the custom shaft choice on its superhot Boom Boom 3 driver to include the Augusta-taming GraffaloyBiMatrx Tour Prototype, as used by the 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson.

Available in six custom colour options: Pink, Black, Neon Orange, White, Lime Green and Neon Blue, the BiMatrx Tour Prototype combines the best of both worlds in materials and performance.

A steel tip section delivers stability and control and is joined to an ultralight graphite main shaft, which provides power and increased ball speed.

This high launch and low spin blend delivers incredible carry and roll, especially when maximised with the Boom Boom’s revolutionary gas-injected Hot 1 Technology.

NCG verdict: Despite not being filled with a huge amount of confidence at address, the Lynx Boom Boom 3 delivers fantastic performance when you hit it well.

It’s an interesting combination with the mean-looking stealth head and the bright coloured shafts. It adds a bit of fun to the package and there’s no doubt there are some quality components on offer here.

For me it worked really well at times but I did struggle a bit for consistency and would probably lean towards a driver which offers a bit more forgiveness.

For Dan (4 handicap) it seemed to work really well shot after shot. There’s no doubt this driver is more than capable of getting it out there with great ball speed numbers.
