South East: Calum is driving golf in Hampshire
There’s a new face behind the drive to get more people playing and staying in golf in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight and Channel Islands.
Calum Drummond has been appointed Hampshire county development officer and he will be working with clubs and county organisations to help bring more people into the game.
Among the initiatives he will be promoting is the Get into golf campaign and Drummond said: “I’ve got a huge passion for golf and a background in sports development so this is a perfect match. I come from a golfing family, I enjoy everything about the sport and I want to get more people playing the game.
“It’s the perfect way to keep active, make friends, enjoy being outdoors and take part in a great sport.”
Drummond will be shadowing Beverly Huke, the outgoing development officer who retires from the post at the end of March.
‘I want to get more people playing the game’ The 25-year-old has a degree in Sports Development and Coaching Sciences from Bournemouth University and extensive experience in his profession. He has worked in Chelsea Football Club’s grass roots foundation and in sports development with Winchester City Council, the Hampshire County Sports Partnership and a private leisure centre.
Andy Willems, England Golf’s senior regional manager, said: “I am sure Calum will be a tremendous asset to the county and he’ll continue to help and support the clubs to increase participation and club membership.”
