Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley was robbed just hours after arriving in San Francisco on Monday, with Ryder Cup mementos among the items taken.
McGinley was in the city ahead of his appearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
“All my stuff was taken,” he said in a telephone interview. “I was just disappointed. I had only been in the country an hour and a half.
‘It can happen in any country or city in the world’ “I thought it was safe and it didn’t cross my mind.”
McGinley had left his rental car outside the Cliff House restaurant on Ocean Beach and went for a walk with a friend. When he returned, he found the back window had been shattered.
Items taken included his travel bag, custom TaylorMade clubs, equipment, carry-on bag, travel documents and passport.
The thief also took Ryder Cup mementos which McGinley was planning to auction for charity.
