South West: Parley course upgrades begin
A Bournemouth golf centre is to stake a claim as the region’s finest practice facility after plans for a £250,000 redevelopment got underway.
Diggers have moved on to the site opposite Bournemouth Airport, with new greens already being created.
The work is taking place on farmland adjacent to the course, which will remain open and unaffected by the developments. The project will double the footprint of the centre, and manager Daryl Dampney said: “It is a big project but already the new greens are being put in and it’s possible to see how it’s going to look.
‘We want to be the go-to facility in the region’ “Ultimately we want to be the go-to practice facility in the region and we were inspired after seeing similar golf centres in the US.”
The new practice facilities and reconfigured course will open around April 2016. The £250,000 investment will lead to an extended driving range and floodlit chipping and putting greens.
The nine-hole course is being rebuilt with carefully-configured tees allowing for a round of 18 with a total distance of 5,111 yards. It has been designed by Eolve Golf Course Design.
