Adam Scott appoints Mike Kerr as new caddie

Zimbabwean Mike Kerr lands one of the most sought-after jobs in golf

Former world number one Adam Scott has appointed Mike Kerr as his new full-time caddie after parting company with Steve Williams earlier this year.

Kerr was Scott’s bag man at the Emirates Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship recently before being offered the role on a permanent basis.

“I’m delighted that Mike has accepted my offer and I am confident that he will be a valuable member of my team for 2015 and beyond” said Scott.

The current world number three became the first Australian to win the Masters in April 2013 with Williams on the bag.

Scott then reached number one in the world rankings the following year but failed to make much of an impression at the Majors in 2014.

Kerr has been a professional caddie on both the European and US PGA Tours.

The Zimbabwean has caddied for Ernie Els, Lee Westwood, Miguel Angel Jimenez and most recently, Thorbjorn Olesen.

Prior to hiring Kerr, Scott said: “The way I see it, you cannot replace a Steve Williams. I cannot go out and look for the next Steve Williams. I don’t think that’s possible.

“I need to go out and find what is going to work for me at this stage in my career.”

The partnership with Williams was a turning point in Scott’s career. They won their first tournament together three years ago at the Bridgestone Invitational.

A runners-up finish at the 2012 Open Championship was followed by an emotional Masters victory, beating Angel Cabrera in a play-off.

Scott used David Clark as Caddie in China and Eddie Gardino in Japan before turing to Kerr  for the Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship.
