South West: Weymouth celebrates county success
The members at Weymouth have enjoyed the club’s most successful year ever at county level.
Tom Robson won the Dorset County Order of Merit after winning the county amateur championship and 2014 Dorset Championship, with Weymouth’s John Blanks also coming in second.
The Stroke Play Championship held at Lyme Regis saw a reversal on the winning podium, with blanks beating Robson by one shot.
Weymouth’s Elaine Rockinham said: “But there was no stopping Robson’s winning streak as he won the order of merit and was also a member of the unstoppable Weymouth team who, with Rob Mabb and Jon Welch, became the Dorset County Team Champions.”
Tom Robson won the County Order of Merit after repeated victories. In the ladies’ section, Sally Davis and Dilys Grant played ar Sherborne in the Silver Division of the County Interclub Foursomes and won a high match against the Isle of Purbeck to become inter club champions.
Rockingham added: “The very strong junior section has also had some outstanding results this year both within the club competitions and at county level.”
Mark Ranking became the Dorst under-15 champion at Highcliffe Castle, while Sean Dimmock became the under-16 scratch champion.
