Reviews: The latest ladies’ equipment

Madeleine Winnett gives us her take on the latest ladies' equipment

PING Serene Irons

I MUST admit, the bright purple grips did come as quite a shock when I first saw them, although they are a comfortable size for ladies, and I quite like the firm feel, when so many other ladies’ grips are now very soft and squidgy.
The clubhead looks almost triangular at address, because of the large, back flange, but this does move the weight low and back, which is supposed to make them easy to hit with a high trajectory. I can’t argue with that, because they were really easy to use, and I was really impressed by how far they went.
The irons are light and effortless to hit, and although the set is available up to a  5 iron,  22, 26, and 30º hybrids are available as easy-to-hit alternatives for the longer irons.

Motocaddy Pro-Series Cart Bag

THIS is certainly a very stylish bag, but given its size and colouring, it’s not necessarily for frail old ladies or girlie girls. It’s a proper golfer’s bag and it looks like you mean business. The 14 full-length dividers are great to stop your clubs from becoming tangled, and I always enjoy having a separate putter well. The external umbrella slot is always a bonus, so you don’t get wet hands trying to thread a used umbrella back through a tiny cord – all you have to do is ram it in and walk on! SRP: £149.99

Glenmuir Saskia Pullover

WHAT an eye-catching pullover. The Iris colour I chose is a very soft shade, but it is complimented perfectly by the striking contrast of the diamond intarsia pattern on the sleeves, and stripey collar and cuffs. Made from 100 per cent supersoft cotton with a stand-up, zip-neck collar, it does indeed feel beautifully soft to wear – especially without a shirt underneath to go out in an evening. Many collars start to sag and go floppy, but this is short and stays in place – a big positive. SRP: £59

Galvin Green West belt

THIS is a really substantial leather belt, and refreshingly wide enough to fill most belt loops on trousers. The cutout, brushed steel buckle with the imposing ‘G’ looks impressive and certainly makes a statement. As it fits up to a 42-inch waists, it is very easy to cut off any excess length and then slip it back into the quick-lock device, thus ensuring your own perfect fit. SRP: £65

Daily Sports Pullover

I PARTICULARLY like this because it doesn’t immediately strike you as looking like a golf jumper – so I went straight out to the pub in it where it was universally admired. Naturally, it was just as well received when it did grace the fairways, and really stands out with its striking, bold star design. Made from 60 per cent cotton, 40 per cent acrylic, it is lightweight and fits absolutely beautifully. Eye-catching, very feminine and very flattering. SRP: £56

Black Widow Multi-Use Golf Towel

AS long as you’re not afraid of spiders, you cannot fail to be impressed by the bold, dramatic styling of this towel. It is generously sized, and it has a choice of three rivets for adjustable hanging positions. Made from thick, absorbent cotton, it is beautifully soft, so you are happy to wipe your hands on it, as well as balls and clubs.
