Kaymer keeps faith in Odyssey 2Ball
In 2010, all Martin Kaymer had to do was look at a putt and it smashed into the back of the cup.
Nowadays, though, he’s feeling a bit more fragile on the greens.
Indeed, the German former World No 1 has resorted to swapping his bladed, Ping Karsten Anser flat-stick for one of Odyssey’s new face-balanced 2Ball ProType putters.
Designed to offer the buttery feel and great responsiveness pros demand, along with forgiveness on mis-hits, the putter, on paper at least, sounds perfect.
It doesn’t seem to be working for Kaymer, though.
Kaymer made the switch at the Masters, where he made his first ever cut (finishing 44th) and kept it in play for the Malaysian Open the week after.
The 27-year-old is persevering with the putter despite comparatively little success, and has kept faith at Sawgrass this week.
Are his results improving? No. He’s in a tie for 78th place after round one and his putting stats are atrocious by his standards. He’s 130th in strokes gained, T102 in putts, and T128 in putts per green in regulation.
If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
